Learn About the Benefits of Dry Ice Blasting

Dry ice blasting is a technological advancement that is non-abrasive to equipment and requires minimal cleanup.

Dry ice blasting can be used on anything from heavy industrial machinery to sensitive electrical components. Unlike the blasting processes that use sand, water, and solvents, dry ice blasting minimizes the risks and lets you clean without the restrictions of other methods.

Using dry ice saves downtime on capital equipment, as well as provides you with an environmentally conscious approach to industrial and mechanical cleaning.

How Is Dry Ice Blasting Done?

We blast dry ice (carbon dioxide) pellets at specific velocities towards the surface that we are cleaning. When they come into contact with the surface, the pellets sublimate, turning into carbon dioxide gas.

This process causes the carbon dioxide to expand, breaking up dirt and grime from the inside out and removing them from the surface. Once the dry ice breaks up the materials from the surface, we can easily sweep up or vacuum the removed debris.

Even though dry ice blasting is most frequently used to clear away dry contaminants from machinery, we can also effectively use it to remove grease, oil, and other vicious contaminants. By using the dry ice to move contaminants, we can catch or clear them away with the help of other tools.

Why Use Dry Ice Over Conventional Cleaning?

Dry ice, being non-abrasive and non-conductive, is dry and gentle enough to be used to clean circuit boards while also ensuring that all of the crevices will be reached, which enables electrical equipment to operate effectively. This extends the life of your machinery by maintaining routine cleanings.

Aside from being more gentle on machinery, dry ice blasting can also be done in ways that lower the cost based on cleaning efficiency and clean up.

This method requires less downtime on the part of your business since there's no need for the disassembly of complex machinery. The sublimation handles the cleaning of machine crevices and machines can be hot during the process, which methods such as sandblasting don't allow.

The only waste produced by dry ice blasting is carbon dioxide and the debris off of the machines or equipment we’re cleaning. Because of this, not only is dry ice blasting environmentally friendly, but it also eliminates the cost and risks of waste removal. Call us today for more information!
